Charlotte, N.C. – Tuesday, June 2, 2026 The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) has released the results of a recent Queen City Safe operation conducted within the Central Division in Uptown Charlotte and South End.

Queen City Safe is a recurring, multi-agency initiative focused on identified hotspot locations across CMPD's jurisdiction. Its primary goal is to reduce violent crime and improve the overall perception of safety and quality-of-life concerns across the city by increasing officer visibility and responding directly to community issues.

On Friday, May 29, CMPD’s Crime Reduction Units (CRU) and Entertainment District Unit (EDU) worked in coordination with Alcohol Law Enforcement (ALE), Mecklenburg County Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC), the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office (MSCO), the North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP) and the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ), for the fifth operation of 2026.

The latest Queen City Safe deployment produced a measurable disruption of criminal activity within targeted corridors of the Central Division. Through high-visibility enforcement, officers removed illegally possessed firearms, suppressed open-air narcotics activity and disrupted individuals contributing to violent crime.

The May 29 operation resulted in:

  • Traffic stops: 238
  • Citations: 68
  • Arrests: 18
  • Firearms seized: 12
  • U.S. currency seized: $1,230
  • Suspected narcotics seized: approximately 233 grams

Since January, monthly Queen City Safe operations have produced substantial results in enhancing safety across Charlotte. To date, the initiative has yielded:

  • Traffic stops: 830
  • Citations: 238
  • Arrests: 109
  • Firearms seized: 54
  • U.S. currency seized: $18,771
  • Suspected narcotics seized: approximately 3,930 grams

In just the first five months of the year, these results demonstrate the broad scope and growing impact of Queen City Safe. The city-wide initiative has consistently disrupted criminal activity, strengthened community confidence and reinforced CMPD’s commitment to proactive, data-driven public safety efforts. As operations continue throughout the year, CMPD and its partner agencies remain focused on sustaining these gains and further reducing crime across Charlotte. Building on this strong collaboration, CMPD will continue conducting these coordinated operations on a recurring basis across divisions throughout its jurisdiction, ensuring that the partnership-driven approach remains a consistent force multiplier for community safety.
