Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, June 30, 2026) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Freedom Division are conducting an Assault with a Deadly Weapon With Intent to Kill or Inflict Serious Injury investigation in the 900 block of Wabash Avenue in the Freedom Division.
On Sunday, June 28, at approximately 9:30 a.m., officers responded to an Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Injury call for service in the 900 block of Wabash Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered two victims who had sustained apparent gunshot wounds. MEDIC transported both victims to local hospitals, one victim with apparent non-life-threatening injuries and one victim with apparent life-threatening injuries.
Freedom Division detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command and Charlotte Fire Department also responded to assist.
As a result of continued investigation, detectives identified Marques Fleming, 25, as the suspect in connection to this case and obtained warrants for his arrest.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Charlotte Safe Streets Task Force and the CMPD Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) developed information Fleming had fled North Carolina to Georgia. On Tuesday, June 30, the FBI Atlanta SWAT arrested Fleming in Loganville, Georgia.
Fleming will be extradited to Charlotte and transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
