Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting an assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury investigation near the 14700 block of Superior Street in the Steele Creek Division.

 

Case Update: Assault With a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury Investigation in the Steele Creek Division

 

Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, March 28, 2023) – Two suspects were arrested and charged in this incident. Jalen Terrell Johnson (DOB 01/09/2001) is charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill or Inflict Serious Injury, Attempted Murder, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, and 2 counts of Shooting into an Occupied Dwelling. Mr. Johnson was treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, interviewed by detectives, and was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

Chance Anthony Armond Logan (DOB 07/26/2001) is charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon and Simple Assault. Following an interview, Mr. Logan was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

Assault With a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury Investigation in the Steele Creek Division

 

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, March 27, 2023) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting an assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury investigation near the 14700 block of Superior Street in the Steele Creek Division.

Shortly before 5:00 p.m., officers responded to an assault with deadly weapon call for service near the 14700 block of Superior Street. Upon arrival, officers located two victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Initial investigation indicates that bondsmen were attempting to serve outstanding warrants on a suspect when the suspect produced a weapon and an exchange of gunfire took place between the parties involved. One of the bondsman and the subject the bondsmen were attempting to locate were the initial gunshot victims.

Preliminary investigation indicates rounds related to the shooting struck multiple nearby homes with occupants. One adult occupant was grazed by a bullet, but not transported. None of the other occupants inside the homes were injured.  The investigation is ongoing to determine the source of the shots that hit the homes.

Multiple weapons were recovered from the scene and two suspects are currently in custody for their involvement in the shooting.  Medic transported one subject from the scene to Atrium Main with life-threatening injuries. The initial subject, that bondsman were attempting to locate, self-transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and was taken into custody there by CMPD. An additional armed subject was arrested after a K-9 track near the shooting location.

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives of the CMPD’s Operations Command and the Charlotte Fire Department also assisted.
