Assault with a Deadly Weapon -- 2800 block of E. Independence Blvd

Charlotte, N.C. – (Sunday, April 16, 2023) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department are conducting an Assault with a Deadly Weapon investigation in the 2800 block of E. Independence Boulevard in the Eastway Division.

On Sunday, April 16, 2023, shortly after 1:00 a.m., officers responded to a report of gunshots being fired at Lab City in the 2800 block of E. Independence Boulevard. Three gunshot wound victims self-transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

Two of the victims were working as event security at the establishment. They were intervening in a fight that broke out at the establish when an unknown suspect(s) fired gunshots, striking them and one other person.

Detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, the CMPD ABC Unit, MEDIC, and the Charlotte Fire Department also assisted.

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD’s Public Affairs Office.
