Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the North Division
Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, March 19, 2024) – As a result of the continued investigation, detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit have charged a suspect in connection to the murder of Ms. Jaselyn Horne.
On Monday, March 18, 2024, the CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) located and arrested Malek Crosby, 20. Mr. Crosby was transported to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) in Uptown (601 E. Trade St.) to be interviewed by detectives. At the conclusion of the interview, he was transferred into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with Murder.
The victim’s next of kin has been notified of the arrest.

Homicide Investigation in the North Division
Charlotte, N.C. – (Sunday, March 17, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 4300 block of Sunset Road in the North Division.
On Sunday, March 17, 2024, shortly after 5:00 a.m., North Division officers responded to an Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Injury call for service in the 4300 block of Sunset Road. Upon arrival, officers located a female victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. MEDIC pronounced the victim deceased on the scene.
Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives of CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services, MEDIC and the Charlotte Fire Department also assisted.
