Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the North Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Saturday, May 4, 2024) – The victim in this case has been identified as James Chambers III, 26.

As a result of the continued investigation, detectives have identified Zacharias Lowery, 29, as the suspect in this case. On Saturday, May, 4 2024, CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) located and arrested the suspect.  Mr. Lowery was transported to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) in Uptown (601 East Trade St.) to speak with detectives.  At the conclusion of the interview, Mr. Lowery was transferred into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sherriff’s Office and charged with Murder and Possession of a Firearm by Felon.

The victim’s next of kin have been notified of this arrest.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, May 2, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 5100 block of Hoover Drive in the North Division.

On Thursday, May 2, 2024, at approximately 10:44 p.m., officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon with injury call for service in the 5100 block of Hoover Drive. Upon arrival, officers located a male victim with apparent gunshot wounds.  The Charlotte Fire Department and Medic also responded to the scene.  Medic pronounced the victim deceased on scene.

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services, the Charlotte Fire Department and Medic also assisted.
