Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the University City Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Saturday, September 27, 2025) – The victim in this case has been identified as Brenton Tarell Samuels, 31.
Mr. Samuel’s next of kin has been notified of his death.
The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Office. Charlotte, N.C. – (Saturday, Sept. 27, 2025) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 8800 block of Hollow Creek Circle in the University City Division.
On Saturday, Sept. 27, shortly after 2 a.m., officers responded to an Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Injury call for service in the 8800 block of Hollow Creek Circle. Upon arrival, officers discovered a victim nearby with gunshot wounds. MEDIC pronounced the victim deceased on scene. A second gunshot victim was located at the hospital. They are in stable condition.
Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation. Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command and MEDIC also assisted.
