Community Programs

The CMPD is actively involved in the quality of life in the community. Problem solving is the backbone of the department's approach to policing to prevent the next crime and increase community safety. We have the contacts and resources that will help build and protect our community

Community Engagement

​​​​​​​​​​The goal is to provide a continuum of program opportunities for youth and young adults who are at risk of or involved in delinquent or criminal activity. These opportunities are designed to increase program opportunities and reduce the number of youth referred to the criminal justice system, delinquent or criminal activity by youth, and delinquent or criminal recidivism by youth.

Dedicated to citizen resources for personal counseling, drug and alcohol counseling, mentoring resources, family assistance, crime victim assistance / resources, and other miscellaneous services offered to our citizens.

Crime Prevention

Crime Prevention is the anticipation of a crime risk and the initiation of an action to reduce it. In order for a crime to occur the criminal must have the ability, desire, and opportunity to commit the crime. There is very little you can do about the ability or desire of a criminal to commit a crime but we can work to eliminate the opportunity.

Local Ordinances

The CMPD oversees the enforcement of various ordinances that provide safety for the citizens of the community. They include noise ordinances, dancehall ordinance, towing ordinance, rental property ordinance, youth curfew / protection ordinance, picketing ordinance, alarm registration / false alarm ordinance as well as extraordinary events ordinances.

False Alarm Reduction

In 1996 the Charlotte City Council and the Mecklenburg County Commissioners found that the excessive false alarms unduly burden the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and waste limited police resources. They adopted the Alarm Ordinance to establish reasonable expectations of alarm users and to ensure that alarm users are held responsible for their use of alarm systems.

Most property can be claimed at CMPD Headquarters [601 E. Trade St, Charlotte, 28202] Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. You may call 704-336-2378 or email us at cmpdproperty@cmpd.org for more information or to order your property destroyed.
