Liz Babson, Assistant City Manager

ACM Liz Babson Liz Babson is an assistant city manager overseeing the areas of mobility, planning, transit, and transportation for the City of Charlotte. Babson has nearly three decades of transportation expertise in state and local government. Her leadership has improved how Charlotteans can safety travel as pedestrians, cyclists, motorists, or transit riders while supporting citywide initiatives.

Babson understands the importance of transportation safety and ensuring equitable mobility for all. Under her leadership, the city adopted its first Strategic Mobility Plan in June 2022. This plan works in concert with the Charlotte Future 2040 Comprehensive Plan and the Unified Development Ordinance, and aligns with the 2030 Transit Corridor System Plan and Envision My Ride. This is an important step for the future of mobility and is critical to how Charlotte will manage its growth into the future.

Also under Babson's leadership, the city committed to Vision Zero, the goal of zero deaths or serious injuries on Charlotte streets. She also supported the development of the city's first comprehensive Americans with Disabilities Act sidewalk inventory and established a program that makes Charlotte a more accessible city for its residents. She was instrumental in the development and implementation of an integrated, systemwide signal priority system that supports emergency response and transit signal priority.

Babson is a native Charlottean and has a bachelor's in civil engineering and a master's in business administration. She is a licensed professional engineer.
